Dear Phantom Phans,
I have been concentrating my efforts on computer paper drawings for several months, but I am discovering that the end result is becoming incongruent with other art goals, which I will state for you:
+To develop a portfolio of works to represent myself to various venues and applications.
– Juried shows
– General submission shows
– Artist Residencies
– Graduate Schools
+To begin making the bigger works that I have been planning to make anyway (there’s no use resisting the transition to bigger work)
– I must have the gumption to redesign the space in which I work. I will construct an easel so that I may work vertically.
– To become acquainted with all of the logistics of making bigger work, so that I become comfortable with the relationships that are inherent to larger work (as opposed to that of smaller work relationships (including, but not limited to, vantage point, usage of muscle groups that create different marks, and the different energy rhythm that occurs from standing as opposed to sitting.)
Unfortunately the computer paper drawings are not considered very serious when I look at them in retrospect. They are effective to inhibit growth in methodology and imagery. But the work does not stand very well against the standards of presentation due to scale, materials, and a general level of finish.
So the point being that I will probably steer away from making computer paper drawings, and focus on making larger work. I anticipate that this will result in some struggling which will appear as a weakness for a while, but is a necessary step towards making the work I will eventually be making anyway.
So expect little-to-no computer paper drawing. But expect larger works to be posted.
